Antonia Jackson

About the artist:

Antonia Jackson’s paintings hover between abstraction and figuration and invite the viewer into a strange poetic world that is half remembered, half imagined.

Interested in memory and the cinematic, her recent paintings are based on carefully selected still images from rediscovered Super 8 home movies recorded in the 70s and 80s by her father during his business travels abroad or family holidays.

Carefully selected still images from those reels are appropriated and redefined during the painting process, which allows a distant past to be brought back into the present and new narratives to emerge. This process also allows for the exploration of varied subject matters such as the figure in space and landscape.
